Ash cloud disruptions
Whilst Berwins Managing Director Paul Berwin found his family holiday unexpectedly
extended by the recent volcanic ash cloud his colleague Emma Farrell, head of
dispute resolution, was preparing to advise clients on their rights to compensation.
“Most airlines seem to be following the standard provisions of the European directive and
are allowing passengers travelling from an EU country or on a European airline
to obtain a refund or reschedule their flights,” said Emma.
The Association of British Insurers was in talks with insurance companies this
week and Ms Farrell said holidaymakers should check their policies and keep up
to date with the latest developments.
“I would also advise people to keep all receipts and to keep notes of conversations
they have had with airlines and tour operators, including the full name and job
title of those they have spoken to.
“Having a record of everything will help should they need to seek legal advice
to try and reclaim costs.”
