About Us
This is the on-line office of Berwins. From here you can find out more about

Our intention is that you should be able to access our services as easily as
walking into our physical offices. We have not cluttered the site with web-cams
of our reception or clever graphics which would all slow the download of these
pages.
The firm now known as Berwins llp has its origins in a merger of a number of
smaller practices from 1993. By merger and recruitment of highly regarded specialist
lawyers we have grown rapidly to be one of the leading legal practices in North
Yorkshire. The firm has developed a distinct profile in its commercial work and
litigation and employment services, in addition to retaining firm foundations
in the traditional areas of private client work - conveyancing, wills, probate
and family law. The firm has a spread of clients well beyond its immediate geographical
location, including national businesses but particularly serves clients based
in Harrogate and District, Knaresborough, North Leeds, York and Wetherby.
Our commercial work extends to cover commercial property, corporate and commercial
transactions and agreements, information and communications technology, e-commerce,
and intellectual property with a range of expertise and a standing in the area
which is perhaps beyond our size.
Berwins have one of the busiest residential conveyancing departments in the region,
where we seek to avoid the factory-processing model which is often adopted, and
using approachable and expert lawyers to deliver a service which the nature of
the transactions deserves.
In our work in tax planning, wills and administering estates we have a long-established
reputation for tailored solutions and specific advice which can save clients substantial
sums, and give answers to difficult personal issues.
Our litigation department covers both commercial and private litigation with
particular strengths in property disputes, contractual matters and intellectual
property rights. We are also able to deal with accident claims, debt recovery
and negligence claims, together with licensing advice and assistance.
Our employment department holds a wealth of experience in both contentious and
non-contentious employment matters, and we are able to act both for employers
and employees.
The solicitors in our family department are long-standing members of Resolution
- the network of lawyers committed to a constructive approach to resolving family
issues, whilst upholding the interests of our clients.
In carrying out our work we aim to provide the highest standards of service not
only in technical expertise, but also in client care. To assist in meeting these
standards we have achieved Investors in People certification, as well the Law
Society's Practice Management Standard, Lexcel. We have also invested and continue
to invest in IT in order to maximise our effectiveness in delivering our services.
