No-one comes to us because they're looking to be treated as a number, to be processed.
They come because they have something important to be dealt with, and they need
it to be looked after by lawyers whose values match their own.
At Berwins we have a passion for what we do; we care deeply for the needs of
our clients and the quality of the work we do for them; we work with them to achieve
what they need, taking ownership of their issues and of their quest to find solutions;
and we strive to be accessible on our clients' terms, not our own.
We hope this makes us special - that's our challenge to ourselves.

Berwins Family Team Shortlisted for Yorkshire Lawyer Award
Berwins Solicitors has been shortlisted in the Yorkshire Lawyer Awards for its
excellence in family law.

Berwins is the only law firm in Harrogate where all solicitors in the Family
Team are trained in Collaborative Law, a round-the-table approach to separation
that brings both sides together in an attempt to reach an agreement out of court.
Stephen Root and Sarah Smith have been recognised in the shortlist for consistently
proving their ability to tailor their expertise to the needs of the client, whether
the client chooses mediation, collaborative law or opts to proceed through the
courts.
Stephen has been instrumental in promoting Collaborative Law in Harrogate and,
as chair of the Harrogate Collaborative Law pod, has helped put Yorkshire on
the map as a centre of excellence for this innovative family law process. He
also sits on the Collaborative Law North Raising Awareness Team and has fostered
relationships with Relate, Citizens’ Advice Bureau and Keep Talking, where he
offers free advice and information to volunteers.
Sarah has Accredited Specialist status from Resolution, the highest accolade,
specialising in financial provision and children. A director of Berwins, Sarah
is a member of the Law Society’s Family Law Panel and also specialises in pre-nuptial
agreements and cohabitation agreements, a fast growing and developing area of
family law.
Sarah said: “Thanks to major innovations in the legal system families and couples
now have many options available to them as they strive to move forward with their
lives after relationship breakdown. Our priority is always to keep abreast of
new developments to make sure our clients reap the benefits of these reforms.”
The Yorkshire Lawyer Awards will be held at the Queen’s Hotel, Leeds, on October
6.
