welcome to berwins

In these uncertain times we at Berwins are aware more than ever how crucial robust, pragmatic and timely advice is for individuals, families and businesses - and that we have to be extraordinary so that you can be, too. It's long since become a cliché that these are extraordinary times; but we also consider that all our clients are extraordinary, and it's our role to help them achieve solutions which are out of the ordinary.

The need for us to do so is now greater than we could ever have imagined when we first set out our aspiration to be "No Ordinary Lawyers"; and our challenge is to help you in ways which are out of the ordinary, and which tangibly improve your business or your personal affairs.

Welcome, then, to our online office – please come inside.

What's Going On?

Berwins becomes a Limited Company & appoints Directors

We have just announced  a major restructuring which sees us  change from a limited liability partnership to a limited company and appoint new directors.

“We are one of the first law firms in the country to switch to operating as a limited company,” said managing director Paul Berwin, who founded the Harrogate-based business in the mid-1990s.

“The decision, taken after a major review, gives Berwins the right corporate management structure for its future development, as well as giving us the opportunity to bring some more talented individuals into the boardroom“ said Mr Berwin.

The other existing LLP partners who become directors are Sue Blake , Carolynn Peace and Stephen Root .  They are joined by four newly appointed directors: private client lawyer Julie Jewers, family lawyer Sarah Smith, employment lawyer Natalie Saunders and practice manager Caroline Davison.  Caroline becomes one of the first non-lawyer managers of a law firm in the country in another innovative move for the firm, taking the title of operations director.

John Barrett, one of the firm’s senior partners, has moved to a new role as consultant, and remains a key member of the practice.

“The board is made up of directors who come from diverse backgrounds which broadens the range of experience,” said Mr Berwin.   “We are confident that this will strengthen our ability to achieve extraordinary outcomes for our clients – at a time when they need it most - and to continue to grow and develop the business.”

The firm will continue to be known as Berwins.

Join us on social networking sites

The days of the solicitor sitting in the ivory tower of his (nearly always 'his') office expecting clients to come to him and moving only for the odd Court appearance or round of golf are fortunately behind us.

With the technology to keep us in touch with base, you're now as likely to find us visiting our clients at their offices, factories, farms and homes as within our own four walls.

But it doesn't stop there - we need to be where our clients are - and although we've had a web presence since that in itself was a novelty  now you can meet us on Linked In - www.LinkedIn.com - a business-oriented  social networking site.  As of May 2009, it had more than 40 million registered users, spanning 170 industries  and we are making good connections with our clients through it.  We also have a Facebook  group which is very new and we don't yet know how it will develop.  We do know however that we have to be where our stakeholders are; so  our Facebook group is for our employees, our clients, our suppliers - and yes, our friends - so why not join  so we can find out what's on your mind and what we can do to deliver in a way that has meaning and value for you.
